The Sensex rose 2,946 points to 77,563 and the Nifty 50 gained 874 points (3.8%) to 23,997 after Washington and Tehran agreed a two-week ceasefire and Iran pledged to reopen the Strait of Hormuz. Brent fell nearly 11% to below $90, the rupee firmed 0.44% to 92.58 a dollar and the 10-year bond yield dropped 14.8 bp to 6.90%. HDFC Bank (+5.7%) and ICICI Bank (+5.1%) contributed most; auto and realty indices rose over 6% each. BSE-listed market value rose Rs 16.3 trillion to Rs 445.5 trillion, against Rs 464 trillion before the conflict.
Why it matters for listed companies
Cheaper crude is India's main relief channel: it eases costs for fuel retailers, airlines, paint and tyre makers, lowers imported inflation and supports the rupee. Lower bond yields lift banks' treasury values and the appeal of rate-sensitive sectors such as autos and real estate, which led the rally. The truce covered only two weeks, so the relief depended on shipping through Hormuz actually resuming; foreign investors still sold Rs 2,812 crore that day while domestic institutions bought Rs 4,168 crore.
