India's GDP grew 7.8% in the June quarter of FY27, up from 6.9% a year earlier and above the RBI's 7% estimate, though slower than 8.6% in the March quarter. Gross value added rose 8.2%, with manufacturing up 9.2%, services up 10% for a third straight double-digit quarter, and farm output up 3.6%. Investment demand (GFCF) grew 11.9%, while private consumption growth slowed to 7.1%.
Why it matters for listed companies
Growth above forecasts despite the oil shock supports loan demand for banks and order flows for capital goods and construction companies tied to investment, which grew nearly 12%. Slower private consumption and weak farm growth temper the picture for consumer staples and rural-facing companies. Strong growth alongside above-target inflation also weakens any case for RBI rate cuts, keeping borrowing costs where they are.
