Three SME listings on October 7: Vans Electroengineerings opens 90% up; Black Opal and Papadmalji Agro near issue price

IN Capital Goods Services Fast Moving Consumer Goods

What happened

Vans Electroengineerings listed on BSE SME at Rs 224.20 against an issue price of Rs 118, a 90% premium, after its issue was subscribed 628.73 times. Black Opal Consultants opened on BSE SME at Rs 200 against Rs 197 (1.52% up) after 73.80 times subscription for its Rs 55.08 crore issue. Papadmalji Agro Foods opened on NSE SME at Rs 72.30 against Rs 72 (0.42% up); its Rs 20.18 crore issue had been subscribed 2.54 times.

Why it matters for listed companies

The three debuts tracked their subscription levels: the issue with bids for more than 600 times the shares on offer opened far above its price, while the two with lighter books opened almost flat. That spread is the pattern of the current SME market, where a small free float meets very uneven demand. The companies are small - issue sizes of about Rs 20-55 crore - so the effect on listed sectors is negligible; the figures matter to applicants and to the pricing of SME issues still in the queue.
