SEBI's board met on September 24 and approved:
- new Portfolio Managers Regulations, which allow PMS money into IPOs, foreign securities and up to 10% in unlisted debt, plus a Rs 25 lakh route into mutual funds
- formula-based settlement rules
- a common advertisement code for intermediaries
- access for foreign portfolio investors to non-agricultural index and non-cash-settled commodity derivatives
- a framework for depository receipts on REITs and InvITs
- a wider accredited-investor framework
Why it matters for listed companies
These are rule changes for capital-market intermediaries, not one-off events. Portfolio managers, wealth platforms and AMCs get a wider product set. Commodity exchanges get a potentially larger pool of participants now that FPIs can trade non-agricultural commodity derivatives. Listed REITs and InvITs get easier unitholder approvals and a route to foreign capital through depository receipts. Brokers and AMCs that advertise operate under the new common code. Any revenue effect builds up gradually and depends on adoption.
