National Stock Exchange of India shares listed at Rs 1,800 on BSE, 0.84% above the Rs 1,785 issue price, valuing the exchange at about Rs 4.45 trillion and placing it among BSE's ten most valuable companies. The Rs 22,562-crore issue, entirely an offer for sale by existing shareholders, drew bids for 50.58 crore shares against 8.86 crore on offer, or 5.71 times: QIBs 12.68 times, non-institutional investors 6.55 times and retail 1.39 times. It is India's second-largest IPO after Hyundai Motor India's Rs 27,858.75-crore issue in 2024.
Why it matters for listed companies
The listing gives investors a direct way to own India's dominant exchange and creates a valuation benchmark for listed market-infrastructure companies such as BSE, CDSL and MCX. Because the issue was an offer for sale, the proceeds went to selling shareholders, including State Bank of India, rather than to NSE. The modest retail response and small listing gain contrasted with heavy institutional demand, a signal of how far investor appetite for very large issues stretches.
