Business Today, citing a Bloomberg report, said Jio Platforms is seeking a valuation of about Rs 11 lakh crore ($114 billion) for its IPO, which would make the issue of 27 crore new shares (2.93% of post-issue equity) worth roughly Rs 32,000-32,500 crore. A separate PTI report carried by Upstox gave a valuation of Rs 12-13 lakh crore, about Rs 37,700 crore raised, anchor bidding on October 19 and public bidding on October 21-23. Nothing has been formally announced and the details can change.
Why it matters for listed companies
The two reports differ by more than Rs 5,000 crore on issue size, so the price band is the figure to wait for. Either way the issue is entirely new shares: the money goes to Jio Platforms, and Reliance Industries, its parent, sells nothing. An issue of this size draws on the same pool of institutional and retail money as the rest of the October calendar, and the 19 appointed banks, among them Kotak Mahindra Capital and Axis Capital, earn the fees. The valuation also becomes the reference for how the market values Bharti Airtel's Indian mobile business.
