Defence secretary says the Rs 80,000 crore Project-75(I) submarine programme is at the final stage

INEU Capital Goods

What happened

Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh said Project-75(I), a plan to build six diesel-electric attack submarines in India at a cost of more than Rs 80,000 crore, has been submitted to the competent authority for a decision. Mazagon Dock is the Indian shipyard and Germany's Thyssenkrupp Marine Systems the technology partner; DRDO is developing the air-independent propulsion system.

Why it matters for listed companies

If approved, the contract would be one of the largest single orders for an Indian shipyard and would add to Mazagon Dock's order book over many years, with work passed down to private-sector suppliers of hull sections, electricals and systems. For Thyssenkrupp Marine Systems it is a technology-transfer and design contract. No approval or contract value has been announced yet; the statement only confirms the file is awaiting a decision.
