Bajaj Finance said assets under management rose 26.5% from a year earlier to Rs 5.85 lakh crore at the end of September, with 13.45 million new loans booked in the quarter (up 11%), 128.85 million customers and deposits of Rs 69,750 crore. Its board approved raising up to Rs 17,500 crore through a qualified institutional placement and Rs 5,800 crore of preferential warrants. The shares rose 5% to Rs 995.40 in early trade, the largest advance on the Sensex and Nifty.
Why it matters for listed companies
Bajaj Finance is the largest listed consumer lender outside the banks, so its quarterly update is read as a gauge of retail credit demand ahead of the festival season and of an RBI decision on October 7 where economists polled earlier leaned toward a rate increase. New equity adds lending capacity but spreads profit over more shares; HSBC, cited in a companion report, sees return on equity at 19-20% through FY29 against 21-22% earlier. A placement of this size also competes for institutional money with the IPO pipeline.
