Cabinet clears Rs 1.86 lakh crore Green Energy Corridor Phase III with 50 GWh of battery storage

IN Power Capital Goods Construction

What happened

The Union Cabinet approved the third phase of the Green Energy Corridor: Rs 1.86 lakh crore to strengthen state-level transmission networks so that up to 135 GW of renewable capacity can be connected, along with 50 GWh of battery energy storage, by FY 2032-33. Central financial support is Rs 54,082 crore. State transmission utilities run the scheme.

Why it matters for listed companies

The money reaches listed companies as orders: transmission lines, substations, transformers, cables and battery systems. New (greenfield) lines are to be awarded through tariff-based competitive bidding, which opens them to private transmission developers, while upgrades of existing networks stay on a cost-plus basis with state utilities. Renewable generators gain from evacuation capacity that has been a bottleneck for commissioned plants. Spending is spread over about seven years.
