Genmab and AbbVie said the Phase 3 EPCORE DLBCL-2 trial met its main goal: epcoritamab added to the standard R-CHOP regimen cut the risk of disease progression or death by 51% against R-CHOP alone (hazard ratio 0.49, p below 0.0001) in newly diagnosed diffuse large B-cell lymphoma patients with IPI scores of 2 to 5. The companies said they would take the data to regulators. Genmab shares rose about 9% in Copenhagen on Tuesday, to a three-year high according to Reuters, and were the STOXX 600's largest gainer.
Why it matters for listed companies
Epcoritamab, sold as EPKINLY in the US and Japan and TEPKINLY in the EU, is approved so far for lymphoma that has returned after earlier treatment. A first-line label would open a much larger group of patients, and Genmab shares the drug's economics with AbbVie. The companies call it the first bispecific antibody combination to show a significant progression-free survival gain in frontline DLBCL, which bears on rival bispecifics from other drugmakers. No sales figures or filing dates were given, and approval is not assured. Europe's healthcare index rose 1.4%.
