AMD reported second-quarter revenue of $11.5 billion and net income of $2.3 billion. Data Center segment revenue was $6.7 billion, up 107% from a year earlier. The company guided third-quarter revenue to approximately $13 billion, plus or minus $300 million, with a non-GAAP gross margin of about 56%. Its release cited a strategic partnership with Anthropic to deploy up to 2 gigawatts of MI450 Series GPUs and listed Meta, Microsoft, OpenAI and Oracle among customers deploying its Helios systems.
Why it matters for listed companies
AMD's $6.7 billion of data-centre revenue is small beside Nvidia's, but a 107% growth rate and an Anthropic commitment of up to 2 gigawatts of MI450 GPUs show large AI buyers adding a second chip supplier. For AI labs and cloud providers that is leverage on price and supply; for AMD it is the base for a guided $13 billion quarter. The release gives no dollar value for the Anthropic partnership.

The finance angle is the contracted revenue: about $36 billion over the initial terms of the leases, paid by the AI cloud companies and hyperscalers that rent the capacity. That backlog is many times current revenue…
The finance angle is where AI work gets paid for. A model that runs on the laptop shifts spending from cloud usage to the device: Nvidia earns from the chip, Microsoft from the hardware and Windows, and the buyer pays…
The finance angle is the price of AI computing for the companies that buy it. Anthropic puts the overall cost of running a workload about 75% below Haiku 4.5, and says the Sonnet change takes roughly 20% off a typical…
The Dow fell about three times as much as the S&P 500 and the Nasdaq, so the day's weakness sat more with older industrial and financial names than with the large technology companies that dominate the other two…
